Yeah, sorry not to have been about lately (assuming anyone reads this shite) but I've been shooting and editing like a maniac for the last year.
This however, just popped up, and having blogged about it and its implications before, its worth mentioning, as its rumoured the news Red infernal machine will be rolling out at the end of the year (which means er, July 2011 then...)
With the advent of the recent video-DSLR's, its obvious that the video/stills hybrid corner has been well and truly turned, with fashion, commercial and documentary images being captured in ultra-HD-high res-photo-quality using video cameras.
But further scary/exciting/mindblowing (pic your adjective) developments are not only around the corner, they're already here.
Walking around the Broadcast Asia show a few weeks ago I talked to a production house in Singapore already shooting and editing 3D video...the results literally have to be seen to be believed, and the implications of capturing photojournalistic footage in this medium makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
It really is now not a question of if, but when photographers will be expected to be fluent in both high quality stills and video capture.
So how long before photojournalists begin to use these cameras, and how long before technology replaces the photographer altogether?
After all, why parachute some extravagantly scarfed trustfund-jockey into a warzone, when you can bolt a bunch of 3D Scarlet hybrid-cams onto this?
